THE DIRT RACER TURNED STREET RACER

Tom wade is the latest athlete to join the SAYSKY team. Tom is a British National but lured to Denmark by a woman a few years ago. He is a former British international steeplechaser and cross country runner now looking to make an impact on the roads. With a current personal best of 1:05:00 for the half marathon he is looking for a big time on the marathon.

SAYSKY FRIENDSHIP AND RUNNING RIVALRY

Tom met his Danish wife at Lamar University in Texas, while both being on a running scholarship. He was actually racing and rivaling fellow SAYSKY athlete Philipp Baar at the time, as he was studying at another Texas university.

OLYMPIC RUNNING MATERIAL

After battling it out with Philipp for a few years and eventually finishing his degree, Tom moved to Denmark with his wife-to-be. While still being based in Denmark, Tom was representing the GB cross country and running track team. However, he retired from the national team after just missing out on the Olympics for steeplechase in 2016. He came in second at the British trials, only 3 seconds away from first place.

GOING FOR THE FULL DISTANCE

The Olympic misfire required a few months off. However, despite laying low with little training, Tom still managed to win Aarhus Half Marathon when he returned six months after. This inspired him to take on the longer distances and now he's gunning for a fast paced marathon. The training is fast and rigorous, but this is how he likes it:

"If I'm not tired at the end of a run, I haven't run fast enough"

We're super excited to have Tom on the team. He's very similar to his teammate and former rival Philipp - they both like beer a lot, yet still run faster than most. Maybe this is the way to go? Either way, we're fans of the laid back attitude.
